“The alternatives to detention program, which we use, has three unique forms of technology to monitor participants enrolled in the program,” Psaki said. “Telephonic is one of them, which uses a participant’s voice to create a biometric voiceprint during the registration process. And when the participant has a recording call, their voice is compared to the voiceprint.”

“Smartlink, which is another option, allows participant monitoring via smartphone or tablet using face-matching technology to establish identity,” Psaki continued. She also noted the government’s “Global Positioning System” which monitors the location and movement history of illegal immigrants awaiting trial through an anklet.

PSAKI said distributing smartphones “is part of our efforts as individuals enter the United States and individuals entering who will complete immigration processing to monitor and track their whereabouts.”

She said “the vast, overwhelming majority of people are appearing” on time thanks to the Biden administration’s oversight efforts.

Doocy asked Psaki if anyone in the administration was concerned that some migrants might decide to pick up the phones and “throw them away”.

“Do you have a record of people throwing away phones,” she replied.

“I’m just asking if that’s a concern,” Doocy said.

“Our concern is to ensure that people who migrate irregularly to the United States go through our process of, you know, of course, being monitored, but also participating in hearings to determine whether or not they will be able to stay,” said said PSAKI.

PSAki then claimed that “the vast, vast majority of people appear in part, we have these monitors, these monitoring systems in order to do that effectively,” she added.

In a letter sent Wednesday to the Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, Republican senator. Josh Haley of Missouri asked about “reports that DHS plans to provide migrants with free phones.”

“These reports demand answers,” Hawley said in the letter first obtained by Fox News Digital.
