The CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav recently unveiled DC’s 10-year plan. It’s no secret that many DC Comics properties have been underutilized, and even the movies that have been released are notoriously hit or miss. The DCEU Hasn’t Really Knowed What To Do Since Christopher Nolan Batman completed trilogy. As a result, they are taking things in a new direction.
David Zaslav assured DC fans that the company understands the state of affairs and is taking steps to move things in a positive new direction. He said the following during a recent earnings call:
“You look at Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman — these are known brands all over the world, we’ve done a reset. We’ve restructured the business that we’re going to focus on, where there will be a team with a plan over 10 years focusing solely on DC We believe we can build a much more sustainable business.
“We will focus on quality,” added Zaslav. “We’re not going to release a movie until it’s ready. …DC is something we can improve on.
This news comes in the wake of a massive restructuring, following the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery. It also comes just days after the announcement of the bat girl the cancellation of the film. The studio had almost finished the movie, but apparently they just decided to change their strategy. They’re not interested in making big budget movies for streaming, they want to make blockbusters.
bat girl will result in a $90 million write-off, but the move has also made other creators under the DC banner uncomfortable. If Warner Bros. can just abandon a huge project like this regardless of the creators involved, is a movie safe? DC’s next movie, black adamhits theaters on October 21, 2022.
